David White will head to this weekend’s Rally Isle of Man as BRC4 class champion but is still aiming for glory
Despite enduring a tough start to his inaugural BRC campaign, White and co-driver son Mathew both wrapped up the BRC4 class title at last month’s Ulster Rally with one round to spare. The duo took their Mirage Vape Store backed Ford Fiesta R2 to a third class win of the season, which was enough to crown them champions.
They will now contest the final round of the season without the added pressures of a title to deal with. They won’t have it all their own way however. Round one winner Gee Atherton will be making a welcome return to the series, giving the pairing an additional challenge in the super-fast Manx lanes.
White is no stranger to the Isle of Man roads thanks to his outings on the Manx National Rally during his campaign on the National Asphalt Rally Championship in 2015 and 2016. He duly won the Group N class of the series in a Subaru Impreza and will undoubtedly put his previous experience to use this weekend.
With the pressure off, White is set to enjoy the three-day blast across the infamous Isle of Man roads.
“We have competed in some big events this year such as the World Rally Championship round in Corsica but the Manx rally has got to be one of the toughest and yet most enjoyable on the calendar,” says White.
“I’m still really on a high after Ulster and it really does mean a lot to us to take a class title when it was supposed to be a learning year. Coming out of the Subaru was a shock to be honest and I’d struggled with gravel at the start of the year. But I really felt at home by the time it came to the asphalt rounds and to come to the Isle of Man now is a fitting end to the season. We can relax a little, but it’s great to have Gee (Atherton) back so I`m sure we will have a great BRC4 class battle this weekend.”
Rally Isle of Man is one of the longest in the championship with over 150 competitive miles of closed public roads spread over three days. Both Thursday and Friday offer stages under the cover of darkness with Saturday hosting the ceremonial finish outside the famous TT Grandstand in the afternoon.
White is running under the Two 4 Motorsport banner and is backed by Mirage E Cigarettes, F & G Commercials, DAF, Whites Bakery, Speedline Wheels and Pirelli.
